We provide answers to your questions on the battery market

The Meta-Market-Monitoring provides battery data along the entire value chain and gives actors from business, science and politics insights into current and future developments of important parameters.

The figures processed here can provide answers to various questions relating to the battery value chain. For example, the data provide information about the future battery market size, about the amount of lithium required for the production of batteries or about the market volume that battery recycling will reach in the next few years.

The switch to electromobility in particular is causing the demand for batteries to rise sharply. How many batteries will we need in the next few years for these and other applications?

Battery raw materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel represent the core of lithium-ion batteries. Where do these materials come from and what quantities will be needed to meet the high battery demand?

Efficient recycling processes are needed for a sustainable battery economy. In the next few years, many batteries, e.g. from electric cars, will reach the end of their life. How will the recycling market develop?

Meta-Market-Monitoring Web Tool

Data from October 2023

The web tool enables the evaluation of different time- and location-resolved market data along a global value chain for lithium-ion batteries. The data of the Meta-Market-Monitoring is based on market and calculation models of Fraunhofer ISI, which were developed within the framework of the accompanying measure »BEMA« to the BMBF program »Battery 2020«. Market data and forecasts from various analysts complete the data sets. The web tool is structured by five successive value creation steps from primary raw material extraction to battery recycling and can be evaluated within each of these steps.

1
1
Raw Materials

The selection »Raw Materials« provides an overview of four starting materials relevant for the battery: lithium, nickel, cobalt and graphite. Among other things, it is possible to see how many raw materials are required for lithium-ion batteries and where primary raw materials are mined.

2
2
Materials

The selection »Materials« offers analysis options for the demand for active material quantities as well as an evaluation of the market shares of different anodes and cathode materials. In addition, market sizes for electrolytes and separators are presented.

3
3
Cell Production

The selection »Cell Production« provides data on current and future planned lithium-ion cell production capacities. Here, for example, it is shown where cells are produced today and where cell production will shift to in the next few years.

4
4
Battery Market

Different lithium-ion battery applications and their shares of the total battery market are examined in more detail in the selection »Battery Market«. For example, the market relevance of the mobility sector to global battery demand can be analyzed.

5
5
Recycling

Under the »Recycling« selection, the recycling facilities required to close the loop are examined worldwide. Among other things, it is possible to see where they are located and how many batteries can be processed.
